WALTHAM, MA- The Merrimack baseball team endured a 19-4 loss at Bentley Thursday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division game. The Warriors drop to 17-23 on the year and 4-9 in the division. The Falcons rise to 23-20 on the season and 8-6 in divisional play.
Merrimack was led by Rob Crocitto (Staten Island, NY) with three base knocks on the day. Alex Ciullo (Fall River, MA) and Joe Mantoni (Northbridge, MA) each drove in two RBIs on one base hit. Brandon Cox (Nashua, NH) and Tim Curran (Weymouth, MA) both landed one hit on the afternoon.
The Warriors plated a pair of runs in the top of the first to claim a 2-0 lead. Ciullo and Curran each reached base to leadoff the frame. Mantoni knocked in both runners with a one-out single to right.
Bentley responded with six runs in the second inning and added a run in the fourth as Lamarre Rey belted a lead-off homer to capture a 7-2 advantage.
The home team tallied five runs in the sixth on five hits and seven scores in the seventh on five base knocks to expand the lead to 19-2.
The visitors tacked on two runs in the top of the ninth to cut the deficit to 19-4. Ciullo laced a two-run single to left center with two outs in the inning to plate Cox and Crocitto.
Mantoni started the game on the mound and tossed two innings while registering Merrimack's lone strikeout on the day. Travis Terrill (Hudson, NH) pitched three innings of relief and allowed one run. Connor Elmore (Billerica, MA) recorded the first two outs of the sixth and Tyler Cuming (Red Bank, NJ) followed with one inning pitched. Matt Solar (Sterling, MA) closed out the seventh inning and worked the eighth for the Warriors, surrendering no hits and no runs.
Merrimack returns home to host Assumption in a non-league tilt at 3:30 pm. The Warriors will honor their four seniors prior to the first pitch.
