Baseball Picked 13th in NE-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll

2010 Schedule / 2010 Roster

NORTH ANDOVER, MA - Coming off the program's first 20-win season in seventh-year head coach Joe Sarno's tenure, the Merrimack baseball team is picked to finish 13th in the 14 team Northeast-10 Conference.

A year ago, Sarno and the Warriors accumulated a record of 20-27 (11-19 NE-10) to finish 11th in the Northeast-10 before Adelphi (picked tied-second) joined the Conference this season to complete the 14-team league.

Senior all-Conference pitcher, Ryan McNeil (Lynnfield, MA) leads the Warriors this season after making 23 appearances and tallying the eighth-best ERA (2.39) in the Conference last season.  One of four captains this year, McNeil threw three complete games in four starts a year ago while leading the team in opponent batting average (.229) and wins (6-2).

Senior captain Brendan Pyburn (Peabody, MA) will look to lead the Merrimack offense as a fellow 2009 all-Conference third teamer to McNeil.  Last spring, Pyburn scored a team-leading 35 runs to go with 53 hits, tops among returning Warriors.  Pyburn's quickness also earned him 16 steals on the year.

For the third straight year, the Franklin Pierce University baseball team has been selected to claim the 2010 Northeast-10 Regular Season title as voted by the conference's 14 head coaches. The Ravens collected 11 of the possible 14 first-place votes for 167 points.

Franklin Pierce (37-18, 24-6 NE-10) won its third straight Northeast-10 championship last year after claiming its third regular season title in four years. The Ravens also earned the second seed in the NCAA Division II East Regional and hosted the regional for the fifth straight season

The Warriors will take on Franklin Pierce on April 6th and 8th, but first will begin the season with 14 non-Conference games spread throughout New Jersey, Florida and Pennsylvania starting on February 27.
