O'Rourke Pitches Baseball Past Assumption; Warriors Knock 15 Hits

NORTH ANDOVER, MA- In the Conference and home-opener, the Merrimack College baseball team (2-1, 1-0 NE-10) won game one of Saturday’s doubleheader against Assumption College (10-5, 2-1 NE-10) behind six shut-out innings from senior captain Ryan O’Rourke (Worcester, MA), 10-2.

Freshman Joe Mantoni (Hopedale, MA) spelled O’Rourke in the seventh to pitch two innings without allowing a run on two hits, while striking out two.  O’Rourke struck out five in his first appearance of the year.

With 15 hits, six Warriors registered multiple hits, including sophomore Ray Walker (Lowell, MA) who hit a three-run bomb to left field as part of a six-run first inning for the Warriors. 

Junior Matt Cataldo (Tyngsborough, MA) also went 2-for-4 in game one with a pair of doubles and an RBI.  Sophomore Tim Curran (South Weymouth, MA) also knocked a pair of hits to account for two runs while stealing a base in the breakout first inning for Merrimack.
