Baseball Falls to Barry 12-1
MIAMI SHORES, FL – The Merrimack baseball team lost to
Barry University 12-1 Monday night.
The Bucs broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the fifth inning,
and another four in the sixth off Merrimack starter James
Haughney (Orlando, FL). Yudelmis Hernandez ignited both
rallies, getting a two-run double in the fourth and singled home
another in the fifth before scoring.
Merrimack broke up the shutout in the ninth behind a leadoff
double from Brendan Pyburn (Peabody, MA) and a run-scoring single
from freshman Ray Walker (Lowell, MA).
Center fielder Jeff Bercume (Leicester, MA) had
two of Merrimack’s six hits in the loss.
Corey Witkowski, T.J. Mullins and Josh Holmes combined on a
five-hit, nine strikeout, and one-run performance for Barry, who
improved to 21-2 on the season.
Merrimack (4-4) takes on St. Thomas Aquinas Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.
and 3 p.m. The Warriors defeated St. Thomas 8-7 in 11 innings
Saturday.
