Baseball Falls to Lowell 6-2
LOWELL, MA – Ted Haley threw a complete game, six-hitter,
leading UMass Lowell to a 6-2 victory over the Merrimack baseball
team Tuesday afternoon in a Northeast-10 conference game.
The Warriors managed just six singles, two by Jeff
Bercume, as they fell to 10-9 overall, 1-4 in the
Northeast-10.
Lowell struck for six runs and nine hits off Warrior starter
Chris Pinette (2-2), who dropped his second
straight start. Bill Humphrey hurled 4.1 innings
of one hit ball out of the bullpen in relief.
The River Hawks scored three second-inning runs, capped off by a
two-out, two-run double by Peter Onorato. They tacked on one in the
third and two in the fourth to take the early 6-0 lead.
Bercume and Mike Dooling each scored in the sixth
on a fielder’s choice from Ed Medeiros and a
sacrifice fly from Mike Andre.
With two hits in Tuesday’s game, Bercume needs five more to
become the second player in school history with 200 career
hits.
The River Hawks and Warriors conclude their series Wednesday at
3:30 p.m. at Warrior Field.
