Falcons Rally for 6-2 Victory over Baseball Thursday

WALTHAM, MA – The Merrimack baseball team led 2-0, but Bentley recovered, defeating the Warriors 6-2 Thursday at DeFelice Field in a Northeast-10 conference game.

Merrimack broke a scoreless tie in the third after P.J. Farnham led off with a double, stole third with one out, and scored on a RBI groundout off the bat of Bob McCarthy.

The Warriors made it 2-0 in the fourth, scoring without a hit, as Andrew Johnson was hit by a pitch, advanced all the way to third on a groundout to the catcher and scored when a throw home, when Mike Dooling grounded to second, was wide of the catcher.

Chris Caron got the start on the hill and hurled three scoreless innings, before surrendering a solo homer by cleanup hitter James Roche in the fourth. The Falcons put two up in the sixth on a one-out triple by Charlie Pagliarulo that plated Mike DeCoste with the tying run and Roche with the go-ahead run.

The Falcons tacked on three unearned runs in the eighth, scoring with just one hit, taking advantage of three Merrimack errors.

Caron (1-2) allowed four runs (three earned) in seven innings while striking out three.

Falcon pitcher Dan Murphy (2-0) went the distance, allowing two runs (one earned) on just four hits.

Merrimack (9-7, 0-2 NE-10) hosts Southern New Hampshire for a doubleheader Saturday with first pitch slated for noon.
