Baseball Sweeps St. Thomas Tuesday

PALM BEACH, FL – The Merrimack baseball team rebounded
Tuesday, sweeping St. Thomas Aquinas 5-3 and 5-4.
In the first game, Ryan McNeil (Lynnfield, MA)
earned the win pitching seven innings while Bill Humphrey
(South Easton, MA) earned his first collegiate save,
hurling the final two innings to preserve the two-run victory.
In game two, the Warriors stormed back from a 4-2 deficit with two
in the sixth and one in the seventh on a walk-off hit from CF
Jeff Bercume (Leicester, MA).
Third baseman Mike Andre (Medford, MA) delivered
a game-tying two-run double in the sixth, scoring Bercume and
Steve Buitkus (Reading, MA) to deadlock the score
at four, and that set the stage for Bercume, who pounded out his
fifth hit of the day and fourth of the second game to give the
Warriors the doubleheader sweep and three-game season-series sweep
over St. Thomas.
Dylan Ellis (Gloucester, MA) improved to 2-1 with
a complete game, seven-inning performance in the latter game.
Merrimack (6-4) battles Caldwell Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Palm
Beach to conclude its Florida trip.
