Baseball Splits with Northwood Sunday
WEST PALM BEACH, FL – After losing 5-4 in game one, the
Merrimack baseball team’s offense exploded, giving the
Warriors a split with Northwood with an 18-5 victory in game two
Sunday afternoon.
In game one, Merrimack grabbed a 3-2 lead scoring three times in
the third. After Ed Medeiros singled home
Tim Curran, Jeff Bercume followed with a two-run
double, plating Medeiros and Brendan Pyburn. But
Northwood responded with a three-run homer off the bat of James
Maley in the bottom half of the inning.
Merrimack cut the lead to one in the sixth as Andrew
Johnson delivered his first homer as a Warrior, but it
wasn’t enough as Rocco DeLauri retired the final five batters
in order for the complete game victory.
Dylan Ellis (1-1) took the loss for Merrimack as
the left-hander allowed five runs (four earned) in 4.1 innings
while striking out five.
In the second game, all nine Warrior starters scored as the
visitors scored in each of the first six innings and put the game
away with eight runs in the fifth.
Pyburn led the way with a homer, three runs, two RBIs and three
hits in five at-bats. Johnson and Medeiros each drove in three
runs, while backup catcher Ray Walker had three
hits in his second career start.
Chris Caron gave up one unearned run in 4.1
innings on the hill, while Andrew Teahan earned
the win in relief, his first career victory.
Merrimack (4-3) battles Barry Monday at 6 p.m.
