Just over a month separates the remainder of summer and the official start of the 2014-15 Merrimack College Athletics academic year, and to assure each athletic program receives the most coverage possible, the Athletic Department has unveiled a brand-new social media directory for fans to utilize.

The announcement comes on the heels of another successful year of social media outreach from the Athletic Department; in addition to introducing new daily social media campaigns such as the “Warrior of the Week” and bolstering fan interaction across different outlets such as Instagram, Snapchat and Vine, Merrimack’s Twitter follower count soared to unprecedented heights and ranked 17th in the entire country among Division II programs as of May 2014 according to a poll conducted by sports information directors from across the country.

Currently, the Athletic Department’s main Twitter account (@MC_Athletics) boasts a follower count of over 3,400, leading the Northeast-10 Conference by a wide margin. Now, each team will have the opportunity to benefit from that figure, as the Athletic Department channels those numbers to build team-specific audiences that will foster the brand and social media presence of each program while furthering the growth of the Department’s brand.

How It Works
New for 2014-15, nearly every team on campus now owns its own personal Twitter account for fans to follow throughout the year. For quick access to each account, head to the all-new social media directory online!

Each team will now have the opportunity to share unique content from throughout their seasons and the entire academic year from their accounts, adding a flare of personalization for each of Merrimack’s 24 varsity athletic programs to utilize.

In recent years, in-game updates came from the Department’s main Twitter account. Beginning this fall, for all “live-stat” sports, in-game updates will instead come from team-specific accounts, with major (game start, quarter/halftime/period scores, final scores) updates also echoing from the main account. To assure you’re catching all the updates of your favorite teams, be sure to follow them before the start of the season!

Teams with in-game Twitter updates include: men’s & women’s soccer, field hockey, football, women’s volleyball, men’s & women’s basketball, men’s ice hockey, baseball, softball, men’s & women’s lacrosse
