Women's Rugby Participates in ACRA National 7's Tournament

LINTEAU AND WALDIE TALLIED A TEAM-HIGH 15 POINTS EACH, LINTEAU NAMED TO TOURNAMENT ALL-STAR FIRST TEAM

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - After winning the Rugby Northeast Championship two weeks ago at Stonehill College, the Merrimack College women's rugby team traveled to Michigan to participate in the ACRA National 7’s Tournament.

During the day one of pool play, the Warriors two games to advance to the Championship semifinals.

The first victory came over Utah State University in dominating fashion, 20-5, with tries scored by Autumn Linteau and Holly Scott while Candace Waldie contributed two. The second victory was a hard-fought, 17-10 win against Ferris State University. Tries were scored by Waldie, Linteau and Brittany Walsh, with a two-point conversion kicked by Samantha O'Rouke.

Day two of the semifinals, the Warriors took on top-seeded and eventual national champion Notre Dame College. Merrimack battled valiantly but ultimately fell, 31-0.

In their final game of the tournament the Warriors took on Davenport University, but the Navy and Gold just missed out on an upset bid, dropping a 24-12 decision in their final game of the tournament. Highlights of the game included scores from Linteau and O'Rouke, with the latter tallying a two-point conversion kick, as well.

Linteau was named to the Tournament All-Star First Team, leading the team with 15 points. Merrimack’s squad featured four seniors and four freshmen among the 15 student-athletes.
