Basketball hosts Assumption on Saturday, while hockey returns to
Hockey East action at Maine Saturday night.
WARRIOR WEEKLY UPDATE...
HOCKEY (7-10-0, 4-6-0 HEA)
In the first-ever meeting between Wisconsin and Merrimack, the
Warriors took a 2-0 lead and scored twice in the third to even the
score, but the seventh-ranked Badgers added a late power-play tally
for the 5-4 victory at the 21st and final Badger Hockey Showdown..
Karl Stollery, Chris Barton and Stephane Da Costa each registered a
goal and an assist in the loss. The announced attendance of 13,962
is the biggest crowd a Merrimack hockey team has ever played in
front of. The Warriors then fell to #11 Ferris State 5-1 in the
consolation game despite a goal from junior assistant captain Adam
Ross.
MEN’S BASKETBALL (7-3, 5-2 NE-10)
With seven three-pointers and a career-high 34 points in the game,
junior Dee Mency led the Merrimack men's basketball team to a 78-76
win over Saint Anselm College on Saturday. Sophomore Aaron
Strothers had a career day of his own with 17 points on 8-of-12
shooting to add to his league-leading 72% shooting from the field
as the Warriors won their sixth straight game.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL (4-8, 2-5 NE-10)
Allowing a season-low 44 points, Merrimack forced 21 Hawks
turnovers while sophomore Genn Roy scored a team-high 15 points in
a 55-44 victory over Saint Anselm. Senior captain Casey Miller
would also chip in 14 points to help Merrimack improve to 4-8 (2-5
NE-10), while Saint Anselm drops to 4-7 (1-6 NE-10) on the year.
Miller will be honored before Saturday’s game for netting her
1,000th career point on December 21.
