Get To Know The Nominees

April Daugherty (Field Hockey)
Senior | Wakefield, R.I. | Communication Studies/Education Major

The senior graduates as the best player in program history, leading Merrimack to its first-ever two Final Fours and Northeast-10 Championships, in 2011 and 2012.  She is also the program’s first-ever three-time All-American. The captain was a first-team all-conference selection this fall, the third time she earned all-conference honors. The leading scorer in program history, Daugherty is no stranger to the top school accolades, being named the Merrimack Female Athlete of the Year in 2011 and Rookie of the Year in 2009.

Danielle Dion (Women’s Soccer)
Junior| Grosvenordale, Conn.| Human Development Major

The junior ranked second in the Northeast-10 in scoring, leading Merrimack to a 10-8-1 record and a Northeast-10 Semifinal appearance. Leading Merrimack in goals in each of the last three seasons, she has already earned three all-conference honors and is a two-time NSCAA All-Region. The striker was among all national leaders in goal scoring and total scoring before her prolific and possibly historic junior campaign was cut short due to injury. She also was a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and an NSCAA Scholar Athlete.

Kelly Schatzlein (Women’s Basketball)
Senior |Tolland, Conn.| Athletic Training Major

The senior averaged a double-double for the second year in a row and was named to the all-conference team, leading Merrimack to a 12-win improvement from last season, the best in the country among all Division II women’s basketball teams.

Tawny Palmieri (Softball)
Senior | Peabody, Mass. | Sociology/Education Major

The senior all-region and all-conference honoree has enjoyed a stellar senior season and has helped lead the Warriors to a 6-3 record inside the Northeast Division. Palmieri owns a team-best .418 average and ranks second in runs scored (16), doubles (5) and first in RBI (18). The senior has moved from short to third this season, has gone 5-for-8 in stolen bases and owns a team-best .684 slugging percentage and .489 on-base percentage. She will graduate in the top-five in most offensive categories in school history despite only playing three seasons after transferring from UMass.
